If you mean to the mains socket, I agree. If you mean to the socket on
the computer, then you have been blessed by angels. I've had this half
a dozen times, and know of many others - including others on this list -
who have had their supplies fail in exactly the same way.

Why doe this? Just buy a new tip from an electronics supplier, cut the
wire on the power brick below the fault, and solder on the new tip.

Oh, please. The wire between the brick and the laptop is as thin as
baby's hair, it breaks easily. when flexed enough., as can easily happen
in regular use.
