If you're OK with removing the keyboard to access the slot for the BMDC,
you won't find this a complicated procedure. On the other hand you might
find installing the antenna in the usual place (inside the LCD case) to
be complicated. Having no experience myself in disassembling the LCD, I
decided instead to try routing the antenna through available spaces
under the keyboard, and it worked well. The resulting radio range is as
good as or better than other bluetooth devices I use.

If you get a BMDC you won't lose the modem functionality. It's an
integrated bluetooth and modem card.

The bluetooth LED is on your X31 already, but it's blacked out by the
LED faceplate on models without an internal BMDC. The LED faceplate
below the LCD is a stick-on strip that masks the LED area and has the
X31 insignia. It can be lifted off using a razor blade and replaced with
an X31 faceplate with the bluetooth symbol. There's a bluetooth LED
strip for LEDs on the outside of the display case also.

The seller linknergy on eBay is a source I can recommend who at least
used to sell an BMDC/antenna/faceplates kit for around $50 for the X30
series, but I'm sure you'll find other sources as well.
