I use the battery that came with my T41 regularly. It's been nearly 3 years now and it's about 75% as good as new.
I did treat the battery well: Topping off but only when cool and computer is off, keeping battery out of computer except when draining or computer is off and charging, etc. It has really worked.
Previous batteries where I wasn't so careful didn't last much longer than a year.
