I ran W2K on a 600, 600E and 600X just fine for
several years and still have the machines.
You can remove a lot of crud from W2K using
a program called 2000lite (also de-cruds XP).

Don't feel bad not upgrading; the 600 series
was among the best IBM ever made. I'm stuck
with a T43 now for a complicated reason but
I plan to go back to my 600X as soon as I can.
The 600 keyboards were much better than any
subsequent keyboards, at least for touch-typists.
So even though the CPU is slower, I can go much
faster on the 600X than on the T43, because the
keyboard gives much better tactile sense.
