[OmniBook] Read DVD+RW with OB XE3?

I have played a little with DVD+-RW's. 
It seems that not all drives support them. For instance, one bulk DVD-ROM I 
have in another (desktop) box doesn't read them. 

I can confirm that the drive inside my Xe3 GC :
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502
works with both + and - RW disks. 
However, that should mean nothing if you have that Hitachi drive..
It is highly probable, though, that you could fix it through firmware.
