I don't know how the hard drive could be interfering with booting from the 
CD drive. You just need to tell the BIOS to boot from the CD drive (and 
have a bootable CD in the drive of course). I don't remember which key you 
hit to enter the BIOS on the ob800ct, but I think it's printed on the 
screen at the right time to hit it.

As for formatting your hard drive you generally only want to do that if 
you're reinstalling the machine and then you'll use the O/S installation 
software to do that (it usually does it for you after you say OK to 
installing).
