[OmniBook] xe4500: display backlight dying?

Hello!

Just recently, I've experienced a problem with the display backlight of
my omnibook xe4500: While I'm working in Xorg (although I suspect the
problem is a hardware one, not specially associated with Xorg), the
backlight of the xe4500's display suddenly switches off and I can't see
anything anymore (although I can see the contents when holding a bright
lamp in front of the display and looking closely). Everything else keeps
working (I can ssh into the machine and can also continue my session on
another machine using vino to export my local display via VNC).

When powering down the xe4500 and switching it on again after some time,
the backlight seems to work again.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there anything I can do
against this or is it simply a sign of the backlight dying? Is it worth
replacing/repairing the backlight/display?

Thanks
Thomas
